The view from T-Day

Toe met leather Saturday in Bobby Dodd Stadium with a large crowd (for a spring game) of around 8,500 fans. The occasion? Coach Paul Johnson's second Yellow Jacket team playing some lighting fast, smashmouth Southern football against itself. The weather was great, and the football was even better.

First off, the offense (especially the 2nd string against the 2nd string D) looked great with a very potent selection of weapons on deck. Nesbitt sat out, and Dwyer didn't play much...but the offense still looked as good as it had against some big opponents last season. There are some new names to add to the arsenal like Anthony Allen, Tyler Melton, Marcus Wright, Preston Lyons, and a bunch that I'm sure I'm leaving out.

Along with the new guys there are some improved veterans and some special cases coming back to the team. Jarrard Tarrant is back and playing well. Tevin Washington is the solid #3 at quarterback who passes at least as well as Jaybo Shaw and is bigger to boot. Roddy Jones and Marcus Wright are A-backs that have blinding speed and can CATCH!

The downsides are there too, though. Shaw's reads seemed questionable at times, and his passing isn't accurate. The O-line could still be more dominant, and the kicking game is non-existant. At one point Paul Johnson slapped the ball out of Scott Blair's hands and told him to get off the field.

Those of you who were there, what are your thoughts? Those who weren't, what are your questions?
